Poorly Designed Well Designed
In this week's lab, I was tasked with critiquing two maps of my choice. I had to choose a poorly designed map, and a well designed map. The maps that I chose are labeled above. I chose the map of the Manasquan watershed as the well designed map because it clearly highlights the area of focus. The watershed stands out from the lighter borders of the surrounding municipalities, the legend clearly explains the different colors and symbols, and the map of New Jersey shows where the watershed is located in the state. I chose the sitcom map as my poorly designed map because the names of the sitcoms are just strewn about on the map without clearly showing the area they are associated with. There is also no description or legend, and the different colors of the sates doesn't actually mean anything for the purpose of this map. I enjoyed this assignment because the critique questions that I had to answer about each map helped me understand the different aspects I should be looking for in a map, and how I should be making my maps in the future.
